Welcome from the Mayor of Port Hueneme

Welcome to our Friendly City by the Sea!

This year, Port Hueneme marks its 70th anniversary and I'm proud of both the accomplishments of our city and the quality of life we offer our residents. Add this to the wonderful, year-round weather we experience, you'll see why our city is the "jewel of the Central Coast". We have a rich history of being discovered in 1542 by Spanish Explorer Juan Cabrillo, beginning as one of three townships that helped establish Ventura County in 1874, having a name that derives its heritage from the Chumash meaning "resting place", being the Pacific home of the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Group the "Seabees", and having the largest deep-water port between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Port Hueneme: a major hub of economic activity and regional impact that no other Ventura County city can compare. Come visit and see why Port Hueneme is the jewel of the Central Coast.

Make-Up

As illustrated in the graphic Port Hueneme is actually comprised of three separate entities:

  1. Naval Base Ventura County, commonly referred to as the “Seabee Base,”
  2. The deep-water commercial “Port of Hueneme”
  3. The predominately residential community of “Hueneme” that makes up the balance of the City.

The community is flanked by the City of Oxnard, Channel Islands (small craft) Harbor, Ormond Beach Wetlands and the Pacific Ocean.
