Recreation Classes & Activities for the Whole Family

The Recreation and Community Services Department offers programs and classes for all ages. We offer classes for tots, teens, and adults, as well as Senior Citizens. We offer a wide variety of programs during the week (days and evenings). If you have any questions about any classes, you may call the instructor directly or call the Community Center office at 805-986-6542. All classes are located at the Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center, 550 Park Avenue, next to Bubbling Springs Park.

Cartwheel A-Go-Go - Gymnastics Class

 The City of Port Hueneme is offering gymnastics classes “Cartwheel A-Go-Go" for children ages 3 and over. Tumbling, cartwheels, handstands, balance beam, bars, are just a sample of what your child will learn how to do while having fun!

Details

  • $45 for 6 weeks
  • Wednesdays at the Community Center
  • Age 3 and 4 from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
  • Age 5 and up from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.
  • Advanced class from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.

2018 Session Dates

  • June 13 to July 25 (no class on 7/4)
  • August 1 to September 5 
  • September 19 to October 24
  • November 7 to December 12 (no class on 11/21) 

Home Schoolers & Alternative Education

Develop strength, flexibility and body awareness with this fun, fast-paced gymnastics class for all ages and ability levels

  • $45 for 6 weeks
  •  Wednesdays at the Community Center - Starting April 5th, same session dates listed above
  • 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Mommy or Daddy and Me Class

For ages 18 months + up

Parents work with the little ones to explore the world of movement through gymnastics. Students will learn strength, body awareness, balance, and focus while working on tumbling, beam and bars.

  • $45 for 6 weeks

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Port Hueneme Stars Hip Hop Dance 

For children Ages 9 to 15 and Introduction to Dance for ages 5 to 8

The City of Port Hueneme is offering a jazz, hip-hop video style dance class for ages 9 to 15, and a fun "Intro to Basic Dance" for kids age 5 to 8, starting with basic dance moves and techniques. Taught by La Tunya Clark. This program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of dance instruction. With advanced skills, the dance program will establish a performance team to demonstrate their talent in local events. Each class will be 50 minutes long. Class is ongoing - you may register and start on any Monday. There is a one-time registration fee of $5 per person. Fee is $2 per class, per week.

ZUMBA- Dance Your Way To Fitness

With Marty Miller. A licensed Zumba instructor.

Marty offers a fun, easy to follow, lower-intensity level class. Focusing on heart rate, balance, range of motion, and coordination. This is a great way to gain flexibility and strength while having fun learning to dance. Participants should wear workout shoes, comfortable clothing and bring water to keep hydrated.

  • All ages welcome
  • Class is ongoing - you may start on any Monday or Friday
  • $30 for a 10 Class Punch Card
  • Mondays and Fridays at the Community Center
  • 4 to 5 p.m.
