Distinguished Speaker Series: “Waves of Change, Oceans of Opportunity for Hispanics in Education”

Saturday, October 21

The history of Ventura County was undeniably enriched by the numerous contributions of individuals of Spanish or Mexican descent. Unfortunately, prior to the 1960s, Hispanics faced some serious limitations with respect to education—the gateway to better jobs and more political clout. In her speech, Dr. Cynthia Herrera, the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness at Oxnard College, will deliver some good news about the sea change in education that has occurred from elementary school to college. Dr. Herrera is a passionate advocate for education, actively engaged in political and community constituencies as well as a published writer and collaborator of higher education presentations.
